April 2025 Newsletter
Note from the President- Hosta College is done for another year! There were 230 registrants who chose 5 classes to attend from a multitude of classes offered and got a lunch period in either 3rd or 4th hour. The vending area had two vendors offering nothing but Hosta, Bob Solberg and Uniquely Hostas. Esther Benedict was there with a huge selection of plants. (When Esther is our speaker on May 1st, she will be bringing plants you can purchase so be sure to bring money to the May 1st meeting). Dannaher Nursery offered a great selection of woody shrubs and trees. Other vendors offered Bonsai Trees, Goat Milk Soaps, Hosta vole protectors, concrete leaves, and the list goes on. For the $50.00 registration fee you get a lot of education and opportunity to buy plants and plant related items. Please consider attending the event next year. It is always the 2nd or 3rd weekend in March.
Marlene and I will be at the Hall on April 10th a bit early to give you the chance to pay your dues if you have not already done so. Please check the Directory sent to each EMHS Member on December 16, 2024. If your name has the year 2024 or before, you owe dues. If it says 2025 or after you are paid up through the year listed. Dues are $10 per year per household.
We have had no volunteers to host a tour of their garden for July. If anybody would like to offer to host the tour, please contact Glen. Sandy Vukonich has graciously offered to host the August Tour. If we do not get anybody to host the July tour, we will have to make other plans which will not be announced until they are finalized.
The next three months we have a FANTASTIC line-up of speakers. Bob Iiames from Ohio will present “Diversify Your Landscape” on Aril 10th, Esther Benedict will present “Crevice Gardening in a Trough” on May 1st and will be selling plants at the meeting, Dr. Susan Haddock will present “Walking Down the Primrose Path” on June 12th (Botanophilia will be selling plants at the meeting). Then on June 14th, the American Primrose Society Michigan Chapter will be touring Pace Gardens in Clio. Botanophilia will be selling plants during the tour and the APS chapter will be selling plants as well. The hours for the tour are tentatively 10AM until 8PM.
Don’t forget that we will have a potluck for the April 10th and May 1st meetings. Plan to bring your favorite dish to pass. The club will provide plates and flatware. If you aren’t able to prepare a dish to pass, we can always use iced tea, lemonade, pop, or water.
Be sure to look at the Calendar of Events dates as this year not every meeting is the second Thursday of the month.
***If you want to be listed as an EMHS Member selling Plants, please pay your dues. ***
Sincerely,
Glen Pace
EMHS President
