Note from the President- Bob Iiames’ Presentation “Diversify Your Landscape” at the April 10th meeting was fantastic! The presentation included 80 cultivars of 31 different species of deciduous trees and conifers. We had 34 members present for the meeting and all the feedback I heard was extremely positive. If you missed the meeting, you can hear Bob speak at Hosta College every year. Next year’s Hosta College is March 20 & 21, 2026. We have a great time learning at Hosta College and the Hostatality back at the Comfort Inn (after HC is closed for the day) is always a great time!
Our next meeting is on May 01, 2025. The Mayfield Twp. Hall was already booked for our normal second Thursday of the month, so we had to change to the first Thursday of the month for this meeting. Our speaker is Esther Benedict of Benedict Nursery in Nappanee, IN. Esther will present and build in front of us, a “Crevice Garden in a Trough”. Also, we are changing the time schedule of this meeting. Please see the Next Meeting section below for the time schedule. The Benedicts will be selling plants at the meeting so bring some extra cash. After the presentation has ended, we ask that everybody help Esther and Robert load their vehicle so they can get on the road to drive back to Nappanee.
Our June meeting will be on June 12th and the speaker will be Dr. Susan Haddock from the Primrose Society Mid-West Group. Dr. Haddock will present “Walking Down the Primrose Path”. This presentation will enlighten you on the different species of Primrose that we can grow in our zone 5b/6a gardens. At this meeting we may not be doing the potluck as Susan has invited multiple groups to join us that evening. An update will be given in the June Newsletter. Botanophilia will be selling plants at this meeting. Botanophilia does accept credit cards.
June 14th my gardens will be open for the Primrose Society Tour. This tour will be open to EMHS, APS MWG, HPS, and NARGS GLC. Please feel free to bring your friends with you. The APS Chapter will be having their plant sale here that day (cash only) and Botanophilia from Wisconsin will be set up and selling plants from 10AM to 8PM and they accept credit cards.
We still do not have a volunteer to host the July 10th tour. This is only a tour and there is no meeting or potluck. You can set the timeframe you would prefer to open your garden. It is strictly a tour of the gardens and not everybody will show up at once. If you would consider opening your garden for us to come visit, please call Glen.
If you have questions or comments about website postings, please email Glen direct instead of commenting to EMHS Admin. The website email is only checked once or twice per month so your comment may be missed for a number of weeks.
Sincerely,
Glen Pace
